KURO RAKU (handcrafted Matcha Bowl) Reviews

Author James E Fisher   (United States)
Review I have been using this bowl for a couple of months and it has become my favorite. Solitude, quiet, subdued, etc.... describe it's appearance. However, vision and touch must be combined to appreciate this teabowl. It is lighter than it looks, feels nice to the touch, and the form is familiar to the hands. Everything about it is in equilibrium (Mr. Katayama has absolute command of the clay). Making tea in it is more pleasing and relaxing. For example, the simple act of gently tapping the chashaku on the rim to dislodge any clinging tea powder is amplified. You are able to see, vividly, how much residual powder actually puffs off the chashaku and cascades into the center of the bowl (a lot more than you think). Plus, this bowl is visually stunning on the shelf.
