Review:

I had never tried (or heard of!) Houjicha before buying some in a sampler from Hibiki-an. What a pleasant surprise! It is now one of my favorite iced teas. I try to drink several glasses of various iced green teas every day for the health benefits. The aroma and taste of Houjicha are very unique. I am from North Carolina where a lot of tobacco is grown and processed, and the aroma reminds me of the sweet, earthy, aroma of freshly cured tobacco leaves. NOT tobacco smoke, mind you, the freshly cured leaves. The taste is sweet and a bit smokey - really unusual for tea! I think if you like oolong tea, or you like the smell of fresh tobacco you will really love this tea. The sampler pack is a great way to try it, too.
