Plum Tama-Yunomi (handcrafted Teacup: pair)

Photo Gallery

Handcrafted teacup: pair: 160ml (5.63fl oz) each, diameter: 3.54inches (9cm) height: 2.95inches (7.5cm)
Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohan Dobuchi

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1949. His art is full of creative energy, as he is naturally inquisitive and enjoys exploring new techniques and designs every day.

This Yunomi is a traditional design pattern but it feels modern and new to us even in this day and age. In this traditional technique, he doesn't paint in the white plum blossoms, he instead paints the background in red. In this way, he gives depth to his artwork, which is a main theme of his work.

This Yunomi has a unique shape. We call this Yunomi's shape 'Tama-Yunomi'. 'Tama' means 'ball' in Japanese. You may think this Yunomi is not easy to use to drink green tea, but once you try this Yunomi, you'll know it is really quite comfortable, pleasant and lovely to hold in your hands.

The Yunomi is also painted on the inside. Mr. Dobuchi's work is very thorough and well-made.

Tohan Dobuchi

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1949 and is the third Tohan.
His art is full of creative energy, as he is naturally inquisitive and enjoys exploring new techniques and designs every day. He studied glaze in Germany, so his works stand out from other Kyo Yaki. Mr. Dobuchi has his own world of glaze, color and design.
In his artwork, he likes to incorporate designs of flowering grasses that are found in nature. These days, he also creates beautiful lamps, tables and other interior designs. His works receive a high evaluation from not only the ceramic industry but also various fields.
