Arita Sash Yunomi (handcrafted teacup; pair)

Photo Gallery

Modern Arita Yaki Yunomi
Handcrafted teacup; pair; 100ml (3.52fl oz) each
Made at Nishiyama Pottery

This colorful design was originally inspired by the beauty of the decorated fabric sash worn by nobles in Medieval Europe. Inspired by this fabric, Japanese artisans combined this with traditional Japanese patterns. The shape and design of these Yunomi is imaginative, unique and sophisticated, and therefore brings both a modern and traditional atmosphere to the table.

To enjoy different kinds of excellent Japanese tea, it is better for the teacup to be thin and the color on the inside to be white. Tea in a thin ceramic teacup is known to have a better flavor, and the green color of tea looks especially lovely against a white background. Also against a white background, you can appreciate the different colors of Sencha and Gyokuro.

We are certain that you will look forward to drinking tea with these beautiful porcelain Yunomi, which inexplicably harmonize with any kind of tableware.

Arita Yaki

Arita Yaki is also known as Imari Yaki. It is fine porcelain produced in Arita, located in Saga prefecture. The features of Arita Yaki is typified by gorgeous blue and white porcelain and multicolored overglaze painting.
Since the porcelain process first arrived in the Arita region in the beginning of the 17th century, Arita Yaki was the only porcelain in Japan until the 19th century. And from then on, Arita has remained the largest manufacturer of porcelain in Japan. From the end of the 17th to the 18th century, Arita Yaki was very popular in Europe and was extensively exported there.
Therefore Arita Yaki brought forth enormous important cultural assets and various techniques of dyeing and painting together with Kyo Yaki. Both Arita Yaki and Kyo Yaki are called the most traditional and sophisticated pottery and porcelain in Japan and are known for their high quality and attention to detail.
