Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Shigeo Takemura at Dainichi Kiln
This Yunomi creates a unique pleasant cooling sensation which is brought by Mr. Takemura's specialty, ash glaze. Ceramics which are said to have a cooling sensation are highly sought after by tea connoisseurs in Japan, especially during hot summer months. An artisan must have great skill to create earthenware with a cooling sensation like our SHIZUKU no Yunomi.
SHIZUKU of this name means drip in Japanese.
Upper outside and whole inside are coated with aqua blue glass glaze, a type of ash glaze. The ash glaze drips on side and the accumulated glaze at the bottom of the inside looks refreshing like the sky or ocean. The area coated by aqua blue glass glaze, has a technique called KANNYU which forms tiny fractures in the outer surface of the glaze, like a frozen lake in winter. The other part has pottery wheel patterns instead of KANNYU.
Some grape shapes are stamped and vines are carved. Some grape stamps are colored purple, while others are natural and unglazed.
The form is well-rounded. It has a large capacity and gentle atmosphere. The base is created in the traditional form that is found only among highest quality tea ware.
Because this capacity is large (200ml / 7.04fl oz), it is suitable not only to enjoy subtle flavor of Japanese tea, but also to enjoy various drinks, for example Japanese iced tea, fruit smoothie, wine or sake, or another. It depends upon your vision and preference. The rim of the vessel slants a little toward the inside, so that it flatters the flavor.
To consider the value of this work, the price is quite reasonable. This should certainly expand the pleasure of your table.
